Switch Installation
Performthefollowingstepstoph ysicallyinstallaRoamA bou tswitch:
1. UnpackandracktheRoamAboutswitchinthewiringclosetordatacenterlocation.
2. PlugtheRoamAboutswitchelectricalcordintoapoweroutlet.
3. ConnectanetworkaccesscablefromyourexistingnetworktooneoftheEthernetportsonthe
switch
(10/100orGigabitEthernet,dependingontheRoamAboutswitchmodelandavailable
interfacesonthenetwork).
4. ConnectaserialinterfacetotheconsoleportoftheRoamAboutswitchtoaccesstheconsole’s
CLIforinitialsetup.
AP Installation
PerformthefollowingstepstophysicallyinstallaRoamAboutAP:
1. InstructthecablinginstallertoruntheCat.5Ethernetcablefromtheclosestwiringclosetto
intendedlocationoftheAP.
2. UnpacktheAP,andselecttheappropriatemountingkitforyourinstalla tionlocation.
3. InstalltheAPattheindicatedlocation
onthefloor.
4. ConnecttheCat5.Ethernetcable(s)totheAP.
5. Atthewiringclosetplugtheothercableend(s)toanavailablenetworkportonthewiring
closetswitch.IftheswitchdoesnotsupplyPoE,theneitheruseamid‐span PoEdeviceis
insertedin‐li newith
theconnectionorpowertheAPlocally.
Deployment
What is deployment?:SendingtheRoamAboutswitchconfigurationinformationintheRASM
networkplantoyourRoamAboutswitch.
Purpose of this section:TodescribehowchangesaremadetoRASManddeployedtoyour
network.
Why is this important?:Tounderstandbestpracticesforsendinganddeployingconfigurations
toyourR o amAboutswitch.
ConfigurationchangesarecollectedinRASMwhenyousavethem,butarenotappliedto
RoamAboutswitchesuntilyousendthechangestoyournetwork.Anychangesyoumaketoyour
networkinRASMaresaved,but
notappliedtoyournetworkuntiltheyaredeployed.This
methodmakesiteasytoapplyconfigurationssimultaneouslytomultipleRoamAboutswitches,or
youcandeploychangestoasingleRoamAboutswitch.
Note: Remember the port number you used. You will need to know this when performing the initial
setup of the switch.
