Access Point 3000 Conversion
ThissectiondescribeshowtoconvertanEnterasys NetworksRoamAboutAccessPoint3000
(AP3000)operatinginstandalonemodetooperateinthinmodewiththeEnterasysRBT‐8xxx
seriesofwirelessswitches.
Logically,theprocessappearstotheAP3000asafirmwareupgrade,andthereforecanbe
performedwithoutrequiringphysicalaccess
tothedevice.ToconvertathinmodeAP3000backto
standalonemoderequiresphysicalaccesstotheAP,referto“ReturningtoStandaloneMode”on
page A‐6.
Preparing Deployed AP3000s for Conversion
ToconvertAP3000sthathavealreadybeendeployedinaproductionnetwork,performthe
followingstepspriortoconversion:
1. ConnectyourRoamAboutwirelessswitch,suchastheRBT‐8100,tothenetworkandverify
thatithasLayer2orLayer3connectivitywiththeAP3000.
2. EnsurethatthedeployedAP3000has
accesstoaDHCPserver,soitcanbeassignedanIP
addresswhenitbootsinthinmode.
IftheRoamAboutwirelessswitchisonthesameLayer2networkastheAP 3000,theswitch
canactasaDHCPserver.(RefertoDHCPServer,intheRoamAboutMobility
SystemSoftware
ConfigurationGuideformoreinformation.)
3. IftheRoamAboutwirelessswitchisreachablebywayofLayer3connectivity,ensurethatthe
switchisconfiguredwithawellknownDNSentry.(RefertoConfiguringandManagingDNS
intheRoamAboutMobilitySystemSoftwareConfigurationGuideformoreinformation.)
4. Configurethe
RoamAboutwirelessswitchtoacceptthisAP3000asavalidAPinthenetwork.
