Devices earning this
certification have
demonstrated the ability
to establish the highest
available speed and
duplex settings in all
vendor combinations
tested. (See Figures 1 and
2.)
802.1P/Q VLAN
Tag Propagation
The Enterasys switches
and routers interoperated
with all of the switches
tested.
Devices earning this
certification have
demonstrated the ability
to maintain and recognize
802.1p/Q tags across all
vendor combinations
tested. (See Figure 2.)
NOTE: 10GbE interfaces
on the Enterasys
SecureStack A2, B3 and
C3 series switches and
the Matrix N DFE router,
were not tested against
pure 10GbE switches
(Fujitsu XG700 and
XG2000, as well as the
IBM Nortel 10Gb
Ethernet Switch Module.)
Jumbo Frame
Support
Four of the five Enterasys
devices tested, and all but
two of the alternative
brand switches, inter-
operated during the
Jumbo Frame test.
The Enterasys Matrix N
DFE router and Alcatel-
Lucent OmniSwitch
models tested (6850-
P24X and 9800) did not
support Jumbo Frames at
Fast Ethernet speeds.
Hence these devices did
not interoperate with the
Enterasys SecureStack A2
switch which only offered
Fast Ethernet ports. (See
Figure 2.)
10GbE LAN PHY
SUPPORT
This feature was only tested
on the Enterasys Matrix X
Secure Core Router, which
demonstrated the ability to
transmit data between
multiple vendors’ 10GbE
interfaces. As per Enterasys,
10GbE interfaces are
supported on the secure stack
C3 and Matrix N DFE but
were not tested. (See Figure
2 for more details.)
Link Aggregation
802.3ad
This test verifies a device's
ability to trunk ports across
multiple vendor combinations
using manual or dynamic Link
Aggregation (IEEE 802.3ad
LACP). For this Layer 2 test,
the Enterasys switches and
routers achieved inter-
operability with all 18
participating switches.
Rapid Spanning
Tree Protocol
(RSTP) Support
Devices earning this
certification have demon-
strated the ability to detect a
failure of the Layer 2
Spanning Tree via the Rapid
Spanning Tree Protocol and
to establish a new Layer 2
"tree."
In networks where multiple
data paths exist, this
approach provides a quicker
re-establishment of traffic
paths and dramatically
reduces user downtime when
compared with the recovery
mechanism of traditional
802.1D spanning tree
bridges/switches.
